Boards, Committees & Districts

When President Lincoln stood in Gettysburg and said our government is “of the people, by the people, and for the people,” he probably didn’t realize we’d still be holding onto his words today.  Through an old-fashioned opportunity that – despite being easy and highly effective – is joining a local Board or Commission.

Boards, districts, committees, or commissions are a common means of interaction between citizens and elected officials on a host of topics and issues. As a board member, you represent the interests of many citizens who may be affected by your actions or those of your fellow board members.

While the majority of the American people and media’s interests lie in federal politics, government entities at the local level also have a substantial impact on the day to day lives of constituents in each neighborhood around the county. By being willing to spend your time on local government, you’re putting in the direct effort to improve the lives of people in your community.

Making an effort to improve the quality of life in your community takes a willful and caring person. Public service is a noble calling!
