US PGM Operations to Restructure

Sibanye Stillwater Mine

Stillwater County

Issue date: September 12, 2024

Board of County Commissioners:

On Thursday, September 12, 2024, Stillwater County Commissioners were notified by Heather McDowell, Legal Counsel for Sibanye Stillwater Mine, that a significant restructuring in mining operations would be taking place. The restructuring includes the reductions of approximately 700 employees. The decision impacts not only those directly affected such as Stillwater County, but also has broader implications for our neighboring counties and our state.

The ripple effect of such a layoff will be far reaching on our local businesses, schools, families, and overall economic health of our county. The County will be actively working with State agencies, local organizations, and workforce development agencies, to provide resources to affected workers and their families.

The path forward will be a long one, but the County is committed to assisting our community through this difficult time.

Please watch the county website for more information.

Signed – Stillwater County Commissioners
