Myers Creek Road from the Ranger Station to the end has been closed. The road is unpassable and not safe for public travel. The County will be working towards a repair that can make the road safe at least for ATV travel.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 4, 2022CONTACT: Anastasia Burton | Anastasia.Burton@mt.gov | 406.841.2557Housing Needed for Flood-Impacted Montana FamiliesHELENA – With colder weather here, the Montana Department of Commerce has issued a request for temporary housing in flood-impacted counties for families whose homes still need habitability repairs. Data from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) indicated that as of October 19, more than 300 families self-reported their homes still needed repairs to make them fit to live in following the June flooding disaster in southcentral Montana. “Many of these families are currently staying in trailers, RVs, or mobile homes without adequate protection from the cold, or have opted to continue living in their damaged homes with conditions that may be increasingly unsafe as inclement weather sets in,” said Cheryl Cohen, Montana Housing Administrator at the Montana Department of Commerce. “We’re asking landlords and short-term rental operators who have a dwelling unit in any of the flood-impacted counties, or closely adjacent communities, who are willing to accept rental applications from flood-impacted families for temporary housing placement to contact us.”Dwelling units include multifamily rental units, single-family homes, winter-ready mobile homes, and/or short-term vacation rentals. Landlords and short-term rental operators who have units available should email HOUSING@MT.GOV with the following information:NamePhone numberEmailRental unit city / countyRental unit bedroom sizeRequested application fee, security deposit, and monthly rent payment amountsWillingness (Y / N) to lease unit at the applicable Fair Market Rent Montana Housing will compile all responses and disseminate to local community recovery leads and disaster housing case managers. The State of Montana continues to work with local jurisdictions impacted by the June 2022 flooding event in identifying and removing debris that is a threat to public health and safety or poses a threat to downstream infrastructure in future flood events. While those efforts continue, the “Large Woody Debris Fact Sheet” discusses the benefits of leaving some types of woody debris in the waterways. Stillwater County continues to work with MT Disaster and Emergency Services and FEMA to survey debris sites and identify debris that will need to be removed. Montana Eastern Region Hazard Mitigation Plan Public Input SurveyThe State of Montana Disaster and Emergency Services (MT DES) is coordinating the creation of a new Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan that will encompass all counties, municipalities, and tribal nations in the Eastern Region of Montana. The Regional Plans will build off existing local hazard mitigation plans in the Region and be developed in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 and Regional Resilience Toolkit planning guidance.The Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan analyzes each county, municipality and Tribe's vulnerabilities to natural and human-caused hazards and identifies mitigation actions that can be taken to minimize property damage and improve life safety prior to a hazard event.The purpose of this survey is to collect information from the public and stakeholders to better understand the vulnerabilities within the Eastern Region as well as solicit input on needs to best mitigate, or reduce, the impacts of hazards before they occur. Stillwater County Needs Assessment Survey for the June 2022 Flooding Event At this time in the recent flooding disaster, we are moving into the long-term recovery phase. What that means for those of you affected by the flooding event is that we continue to look for the resources to assist you with remaining unmet needs you may have. We are working on getting grants for case managers resource managers and construction consultants to help close the gap on remaining needs as well as grants to help with resources.
